I am the president of Royal Gardens in Salt Lake City, Utah. We sell and maintain quality tropical plants (house plants). This book is one of my favorites. I have learned many things about plants that I didn't know before. The way it covers everything from selecting your plant to where it should go in your home to diseases and pests is very easy to understand for the unskilled "brownthumb". It has an excellent glossary of terms which doesn't go overboard on overwhelming the reader on too many unusable terms. The section called "Plant Portraits and Tips on Culture" is wonderful! It doesn't contain every single house plant known to man, but only the most popular and a few rarities. The section also includes very easy to understand tips on how to care for the plant, as well as where the plant originates and the scientific family names. The pictures in the book are tastefully done weather they are photographs or drawings. They help the reader get a better idea of the proceedures involved in the care of plants and what they look like. The index is equally helpful, inasmuch as the reader can look up a plant by the common name or the scientific name. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to know how to better care for their house plants. As a professional, I use it as a text book on how to maintain plants.(Read more)
